Rick Valenta, Director of the Sustainable Minerals Institute at The University of Queensland, spoke at CESCO 2024, a major exploration forum focused on mining sustainability.
Professor Valenta, an expert in geology and geophysics, spoke about the new paradigm for pre-competitive support of mining exploration and development, in the framework of our long-term collaboration and partnership with the Department of Resources (Queensland).
Doug Aitken and Francisca Rivero—Executive Director and General Manager of SMI-ICE-Chile—also attended this important mining industry event, where they had the chance to speak with executives, government authorities, academics and consultants.
«We seek to focus public policy discussion on how to leverage the opportunity offered by global action for decarbonisation in mining countries like Chile, to supply raw materials such as copper, lithium, rare earths or iron, first of all in a sustainable manner, creating value in the towns where they are located, contributing to economic growth, financing social policies and also promoting technological development that will allow us to diversify our economy,» commented CESCO Executive Director Jorge Cantallopts in his opening remarks at the 27th version of CESCO Week.
