The project’s objective is to increase knowledge and appreciation of the high Andean wetlands of this Regional Priority Site, generating a positive effect on the Salar de Pedernales and other nearby ecosystems. Several key activities will be carried out to achieve this, including:
- Drafting a Management Plan to guide the conservation and sustainable use of high Andean wetlands.
- Publishing scientific studies on the high Andean wetlands and the priority site, as well as a book on regional flora and fauna.
- Organizing educational activities for children and teens, carried out by scientists, educators and community members of the Colla indigenous communities, to generate socio-environmental awareness and respect.
- Co-designing and implementing, in collaboration with the Colla indigenous communities, lookout points and information panels that merge ancestral and scientific knowledge, promoting environmental conservation and inclusive education.
- Supporting the establishment of a real right of environmental conservation to ensure long-term protection of the wetlands.
- Designing and executing a communications plan to inform the public about the project’s outcomes and stages using graphic and audio-visual material.
These actions aim not only to conserve the Regional Priority Site’s high Andean wetlands, but also to strengthen community participation and environmental education, ensuring a lasting, positive impact on the region. https://www.codelco.com/material-didactico
