Olivia is a Geologist from Universidad de Concepción and has a Master’s in Applied Mineralogy to Geometallurgy from the same university in Chile. She has over six years of industrial experience in geometallurgy and production geology, applied to short-term mine planning at El Teniente underground mine through geometallurgical characterisation and ore control. She has experience working in multidisciplinary teams, including mining, metallurgical and chemical engineers. Familiar with analytical techniques such as QemScan, SEM-EDS, XRD, AAS, XRF and ICP. Her research experience was gained through her Master’s thesis related to mine waste geometallurgical characterisation, and as a Research Assistant at SMI-BRC at the end of 2019.

Currently, she works at SMI-ICE-Chile as a Project Geologist in the Productivity Area, involved in the Complex Ore Bodies Program carried out in critical metals in an IOCG deposit in the north of Chile through applied geochemistry and geometallurgy point of view. Since 2019, she has been part of the Technical Committee of the Geomet annual conference. She has recently been accepted to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree program at the Sustainable Minerals Institute of The University of Queensland, Australia. Her PhD research will be part of the project “Transforming Queensland’s mine waste into green ore deposits: Exploration of new economy metals.” At present, she is part of the authors of the Geology for Global Development (GfGD) blog, an international entity based in the United Kingdom whose purpose is to advocate the role of geology in achieving compliance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
